Every Grotto is allowed to operate as it sees fit. While there may be a State Association (depending on area) they really don't have any power. The best part of Grotto is that the Supreme Council (the national ruling body) is very hands off. I doubt you'll ever see anything TO like in Grotto. I don't want to push a "Traditional Observance" framework on my new friends if that's opposed to the very purpose of the organization. I had proposed that, instead of the chain diner (which I've always found over-priced for a mediocre dining experience), we have a catered meal, perhaps even in the form of a festive board. Very rarely, we proceed to the temple to conduct ceremony - though, it seems that this generally happens only for the conferral of initiation. My Grotto meets monthly, generally at a local diner, for drinks and supper. As such, I'm very much the new guy and am still feeling it out.
